HOTEL ZAHRADA – Čiklova Street, Prague 2 – Nusle
Zoning Study in Response to a Proposal to Amend the Prague Master Plan.
The architectural volumetric study from 2005, revised in 2013 by Ing. arch. Stempel and Ing. arch. Jan Tesař, presents a concept featuring a simple hotel volume that complements the sculptural garden in its composition. The hotel is therefore designed as a vertical garden—a “planted flowerpot.” The basement level, with its garages partially embedded in the steep slope, forms this flowerpot from which the residential floors “grow.” The greenery here helps improve the acoustic conditions, which are degraded by the railroad track. The hotel is thus enveloped by an acoustic facade; together with the sculptures, it serves as a continuation of the exhibition sculpture garden. The entrance level faces Čiklova Street, from which an elevator also provides access to the delivery area and the garages.
Layout – The ground floor is designed as an open space housing the foyer, blacksmith’s shop, restaurant, and vertical circulation areas. The next four above-ground residential floors house the hotel rooms, with each floor centered around a gallery featuring an elevator and a staircase. There are 15 rooms with private bathrooms evenly distributed throughout the building.
– The first basement level is designated as a utility floor; next to the kitchen and storage rooms are the hotel’s necessary support facilities.
– The second and third basement levels are planned to house a 15-space garage with vertical access via an elevator.
The well-preserved building that once housed the original studios—which is now connected to the new structure—hosts ongoing exhibitions and artistic activities open to the public, with the option of organizing seminars, conferences, and other cultural events.
