The proposed apartment building, named after the former estate above Čikova Street, will be part of the Art Garden exhibition area, where Karel Novák’s sculpture studios were located in the first half of the 20th century. The new structure consists of two parts: the apartment building itself and the Art Garden’s administrative building, which will be located on the site of the original studio.
The design of these new buildings began as early as 2022 and is still underway today. The apartment building is situated along the street frontage of the existing houses, but it does not adjoin them directly; instead, it is set back from the last house so as to preserve the view of its eastern facade, which marks the end of the row of existing houses.
The new building is a five-story structure with a main entrance on Čiklova Street and underground garages that are visible from below due to the difference in elevation between the street and the garden level. The project also includes partial modifications to the sidewalk in front of the building. Two garage entrances will be located on the sidewalk, and there will also be a new entrance to the Art Garden.
Adjacent to these garages at garden level will be an administrative building for the art garden itself. It will be a two-story structure and will primarily house an exhibition space with a small café; the upper floor will contain administrative offices as well as studios. This will ensure that sculptors can continue to work in a space with a strong genius loci.
